Cyprus takes over Presidency of the Council of the EU

The Eurydice Network highlights the key education issues which will be taken forward during the Presidency.
  • Erasmus for All’ – the proposed new programme for education, training, youth and sports, which is expected to bring together all current EU and international schemes. It is hoped that final agreement can be made during the Presidency.
  • Literacy – Cyprus will propose European Council conclusions calling for the effective tackling of illiteracy through more qualitative education and training. Vocational education and training – focus will be put on equity and excellence in VET for young people and adults.
  • Higher education – the Presidency will place emphasis on quality assurance and internationalization of higher education in line with EU objectives as well as focusing on excellence in teaching and learning.

Ireland will take over the Presidency in January 2013.
