 This is not something that I was aware that Fawcett provided so, forget the article about the value of local government to women and go with this, another place where women in trouble can hope to be signposted to sources of help.

There are also local groups which I have not investigated.

Why do women so rarely make it in the financial sector?

The Fawcett Society’s blog started a new series in April of this year.

Speakers’ Corner, gives a voice to anyone up against gender discrimination in their everyday lives. Here, author and journalist Iona Bain, gives some insight into her experiences working as a woman in the financial sector.

“A few weeks ago, I attended an investment dinner hosted by a high-profile fund house, which shall remain nameless. A sad, but not uncommon sight greeted me; half a dozen fund managers were addressing the financial media – and all were men. Some were interesting; others… not so much.
“To say that this was an event designed to whip up media enthusiasm for investing, which is not the easiest of jobs in this uncertain climate, believe me, I came away with a gnawing feeling that a vital piece of the jigsaw was missing. Oh yes! A female perspective.”

Don't turn back time on women’s rights

New report details “targeted, achievable policies” to defend women’s rights.

The Fawcett Society, backed by a coalition of more than 20 charities, unions and academics, has today unveiled a new report entitled A Life Raft for Women’s Equality.

Detailing a series of key policy recommendations for government, the Life Raft for Women’s Equality comes amid growing evidence that the government’s approach to reducing the deficit is ‘turning back time’ on women’s equality – and is published on the same day the Minister for Women and Equalities is expected to give a speech outlining the government’s approach to women and the economy.
