Lifelong Learning and Social Justice

This book, published on 1 July by NIACE, explores the challenges that arise from attempts to align lifelong learning with social justice and demonstrates the costs of an agenda driven solely by skills and economic factors.

It offers a valuable perspective encompassing areas such as:
  • sustainability and community;
  • learning and work; and
  • identities.
With both a policy and practitioner focus, and an international aspect, the book will broaden readers’ understanding of the field and offers alternative ways of developing and enhancing learning opportunities.

Professor Sue Jackson, said: “It could be argued that until recently policy definitions of lifelong learning have been shaped by a skills-driven agenda. And until recently, there appears to have been little or no recognition of alternative ways of developing and enhancing learning opportunities, nor of questions of learner identities or the intersections between lifelong learning and social justice. This book is at the heart of such debate.
Lifelong Learning and Social Justice is unique in that it offers contributions from each of the UK’s four countries. The majority of contributors represent major UK universities, but the book also offers a significant international dimension with contributors from Australia and Canada.”
